If you’ve ever visited the China Pavilion at Epcot and indulged in the delightful Sesame Balls with Red Bean Paste, you’ll understand the longing to recreate this flavorful experience at home.

This dish is based on the Sesame Balls with Red Bean Pase from the China Pavilion at Epcot. Find more unofficial, dupe recipes from this festival here at my masterlist.

Ingredients:

For the Red Bean Paste:

  • 1 cup adzuki beans
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • Water

For the Sesame Balls:

  • 2 cups glutinous rice flour
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 1/2 cups sesame seeds (white or black)
  • Oil for frying

Instructions:

1. Prepare the Red Bean Paste:

  1. Rinse the adzuki beans and soak them in water for at least 4 hours or overnight.
  2. Drain the beans and place them in a pot with enough water to cover. Bring to a boil and then simmer until the beans are soft (about 1 to 1.5 hours).
  3. Mash the cooked beans or blend them into a smooth paste.
  4. In a separate pan, cook the bean paste with sugar over medium heat, stirring continuously, until it thickens. Allow it to cool.

2. Make the Sesame Balls:

  1. In a bowl, mix glutinous rice flour, sugar, and water until you get a smooth batter.
  2. Heat oil in a deep fryer or a heavy-bottomed pot to 350°F (175°C).
  3. Wet your hands to prevent sticking, take a small portion of the rice flour batter, flatten it, and place a teaspoon of red bean paste in the center. Seal the edges to form a ball.
  4. Roll the ball in sesame seeds, ensuring it is coated evenly.
  5. Carefully place the sesame-coated ball into the hot oil and fry until it becomes golden brown. Be cautious to avoid overcrowding the frying pan.
  6. Remove the sesame ball with a slotted spoon and place it on paper towels to absorb excess oil.
  7. Repeat the process with the remaining batter and red bean paste.

3. Serve:

Serve the Sesame Balls with Red Bean Paste warm. Enjoy these delightful treats with a crispy exterior and a sweet, gooey interior!

Tips:

  • Ensure the red bean paste is thick enough to hold its shape when filling the sesame balls.
  • Experiment with black or white sesame seeds for variety in appearance and flavor.
  • Adjust the sugar levels in both the red bean paste and sesame ball batter according to your taste preferences.

I hope you enjoy making and indulging in these homemade Sesame Balls with Red Bean Paste. With their crispy exterior and sweet, gooey filling, these treats offer a delightful balance of textures and flavors.
