- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
For Assembling:
- Hoisin sauce
- Sriracha or hot sauce
- Sliced green onions
- Sesame seeds
Instructions:
1. Prepare the Char Siu Pork:
- In a bowl, mix together char siu sauce, soy sauce, hoisin sauce, honey, minced garlic, five-spice powder, and sesame oil to create the marinade.
- Marinate the pork slices in the mixture for at least 2 hours or overnight.
- Heat a grill or grill pan over medium-high heat and cook the pork slices until caramelized and cooked through.
2. Make the Bun Dough:
- In a bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for about 5 minutes until frothy.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, baking powder, and vegetable oil.
- Add the yeast mixture to the flour mixture and knead until you get a smooth, elastic dough.
- Cover the dough and let it rise in a warm place for about 1-2 hours or until doubled in size.
3. Shape the Buns:
- Punch down the risen dough and divide it into equal-sized balls.
- Roll each ball into an oval shape, place a slice of char siu pork in the center, and fold the dough over, pinching the edges to seal.
4. Steam the Buns:
- Place the assembled buns on parchment paper in a steamer basket, leaving space between them.
- Steam the buns for 15-20 minutes until they are puffy and cooked through.
5. Assemble:
- Spread hoisin sauce inside the bun, add a slice of char siu pork.
- Drizzle with Sriracha or hot sauce, sprinkle with sliced green onions, and sesame seeds.
6. Serve:
- Serve the Char Siu Pork Buns warm and enjoy this fusion of Chinese and American flavors.
